We are Mathieu Gasquet and Heather Broster, the creators of We Travel Wales.
Mathieu was born and raised in Turin, in northern Italy, to an Italian mother and a French father. He also spent some time in France, where he studied cinema and photography.
Heather was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and has lived in various countries, including Japan and Italy. A true language enthusiast, Heather is proficient in English and Italian, as well as Japanese, Welsh, and French to varying degrees of fluency.
We met in Turin when Heather was working first as an au-pair and later as an English school teacher, while Mathieu was running a video production studio.
Why Wales?
We started visiting Wales in the summer to spend time with Heather’s family, and we fell in love with the country very quickly, making it our default holiday destination in the subsequent years.
After some time, tired of our jobs in Italy and intrigued by the possibility of blogging and earning a living independently, we decided to move to Wales and start a new life.
Mathieu channeled his passion for photography by becoming a full-time camera reviewer on our website mirrorlesscomparison.com as well as our YouTube channel, while Heather fuelled her passion for languages by creating Daily Italian Words, dedicated to the Italian language and those who want to learn it.
After spending almost ten years taking photographs all around Wales and starting a family, we realized the country might well be our final destination. We began to ponder the idea of a new website that would pay tribute to this beautiful place we’re lucky to call home. The thought grew stronger and stronger in our minds until, in 2024, we translated it into action, and We Travel Wales was born.
Our Goal with We Travel Wales
With this website, we aim to showcase the beauty of the country and the many opportunities it offers to travellers. Whether you fancy immersing yourself in nature, discovering the local wildlife, exploring the vibrant colours of a seaside town, or taking part in various activities with friends or family, we have something for everyone.
We want to share useful information, interesting stories, and beautiful photographs. We also aim to create a community with the help of our newsletter and Facebook group, providing more opportunities to hear what people are looking for and what their favourite things to do in Wales are.
We hope you find our website helpful, whether you are living in Wales but haven’t explored every inch of the country yet, or you are living abroad and are intrigued by what the Welsh landscape has to offer.
